Directed by Eric Kandel, the Kavli Institute for Brain Science at Columbia University will emphasize neural circuitry and will investigate, for example, how various genetic components involved in generating neural plasticity are organized, coordinated and expressed within the complex geometry of a neuron and how the activity of individual nerve cells is linked to the neural circuits that mediate complex behaviors
Proud of its long and accomplished history, the New York State Psychiatric Institute continues to work at the leading edge of today's discoveries in mental health.
Our Institute brings together Columbia scientists from different disciplines whose research interests are in the processes of early development and how these relate to the etiology and treatment of psychiatric illness. Supported by an endowment from the Sackler Foundation and established at Columbia in April 2001, our Institute is dedicated to an investigation of the complex processes underlying development at levels ranging from the molecular to the psychological.
The Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain an interdisciplinary institute in Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons. Our mission is to develop the means to identify vulnerable individuals at risk for Alzheimer's disease and devise new therapies to prevent or delay disorders of the aging brain.
